Redefining Car Ownership in Europe

Hyundai's groundbreaking car subscription service, Mocean, debuted in Europe with a thought-provoking campaign: "Subscribe to a car that doesn't own you."

My Contribution: I played a pivotal role in the campaign's development, crafting multiple creative routes and leading the art direction. Additionally, I spearheaded the creation of a modular system enabling data-driven targeting based on weather, location, and other relevant parameters.

Capturing "Wouldn't-It-Be-Nice" Moments with Mocean

The Mocean campaign tapped into relatable scenarios where car ownership shines: public transport delays, cold and rainy weather, moving days, or even noisy neighbours with questionable music taste. These everyday situations highlighted the convenience and freedom a Mocean subscription offers.

Visually Engaging and Data-Driven

The campaign leveraged a vibrant and versatile colour palette, allowing designers to create visually compelling and adaptable iconography. We didn't stop there. By incorporating user data like location and weather, the icons and colours could dynamically change, ensuring the ad experience resonated with the viewer's specific context.

Lifestyle Images Integration

The campaign adopted a unique "cut-out" aesthetic for both lifestyle images and moving visuals. This approach offered several advantages:

Versatility: The cut-out style facilitated the application of a dynamic color palette, allowing the visuals to seamlessly adapt to the campaign messaging and complement the iconography.
Animated Intrigue (Optional): For video content, the cut-out mask could be strategically animated. This technique could be used to gradually reveal the full context of the scene, building anticipation and viewer engagement.

Mobile-First Storytelling

To maximise impact on mobile devices, the campaign utilised a split-screen approach for all mobile content. This innovative format served two key purposes:

Contextual Engagement: By showcasing a relatable scenario on one side of the split-screen and the convenience of Mocean on the other, the ad instantly highlights the service's value proposition in situations viewers are likely to encounter on their phones (e.g., commuting delays).
Visual Storytelling: The split-screen format creates a dynamic and engaging visual narrative, effectively communicating the message without relying heavily on text.
